NLQP-Mr.BLOTTO cross country immunity challenge

Survivor NLQP - Chicago Edition - The Whole Fam Damily Tribe

The Whole Fam Damily loaded up John & Chelsea's van, enjoyed a wonderful NLQP send-off and made the grueling 7 hour drive to Chicago after accepting the Mr Blotto immunity Challenge. Tiny's cozy apartment was the WFD tribe's Chicago camp. After arriving at 5am, our first task was to settle in.

After a brief nap our first challenge was rehearsal. The tribe did it's best. It's All About The Music, ya know? Luckily our reward was to open for Mr. Blotto Friday nite at Fitzgerald's, a renowned live music institution in Chicago. After gaining three new tribe members (Tony Dellumo, of Mr Blotto, on drums; Steve Ball, of Mr Blotto, on B3 organ; Allie Kral, of Cornmeal, on fiddle and Steve Hebberechter, of The Leadfoot String Band, on mandolin) the WFD tribe proceeded to rock the house - what a blast! It was a great reward. We got a wild response from the crowd - even Mr Blotto's Mike Bolger was seen standing in the front row with his mouth wide open, of course he was standing directly in front of the lovely and talented Allie Kral. After our reward we headed back to our camp at Tiny's to prepare for our next challenge. This challenge involved getting the WFD tribe up and on the road by 1pm to make the drive out to Valpariso Indiana to open for Mr Blotto at their Blottumnal Equinox party Saturday. We knew the Quarry Gods were smiling on us when we didn't run out of gas on the freeway trying to get out of Chicago, another huge part of the challenge involved dodging traffic on the way there. After gliding into a gas station on fumes we refueled and got to the gig in record time. Our reward? Another wonderful Whole Fam Damily Mr. Blotto experience. Tony D and Steve H joined the WFD tribe onstage again for another rousing set. No injuries were reported and a good time was had by all!
Of course we had to accept the special late nite music challenge although the tribe members energy was rather scattered at that point. John & Tiny jammed with members of Mr Blotto & Chester Brown while PBW, Shelle, Chelsea, Ilora and the pups rotated in and out of the van trying to stay warm. About 5am PBW was tired of freezing his ass off (we told him to put some clothes on but you know Will...). He demanded that the WFD tribe be declared as winner's of the late nite music challenge. That was a given since John & Tiny were the only musicians to make it to the late, late, late nite round of the music challenge - imagine that - around the one and only campfire (this ain't the ledges). Our reward was a well deserved nap while PBW drove us back to camp!

Sunday nite the men in the WFD tribe accepted the Swag Challenge at the local pub - God bless 'um. While John ran the pool table for 15 games in a row, PBW worked the room. He immediately scouted out the local el schwagola vendor. Good one Purplebus Will. And John, free beers are always nice. Score one for WFD tribe! After clear cutting the timber from our emergency purchase, we used the stems to draw straws to see who would get the brown hit. PBW "won" that challenge too.

Then on to the next challenge - open mic nites. Monday nite we hit the Wise Fools Pub and enjoyed pristine sound conditions and incredible music from all participants. Nancy and Michelle joined the FamDam for some closing tunes that were packed with powerful harmonies and groovin' percussion-dem gals got de pipes! Tuesday nite we decided to double the challenge & hit The Abbey Pub and The Horsehoe. Once again we were victorius - Rock Star parking at all three places didn't hurt anything!

On Wednesday the tribe freaked out, but we're ok now... it was the Street Busker Challenge. The tribe took a hit at the Lincoln Park zoo (even though we once again had rock star parking) when we failed to have the necessary permits required to play street music - permits to play music? Luckily no one was checking permits at our next stop - we staked out one corner of a six way intersection in the Depaul University area for the remainder of the afternoon, making lots of new friends! The people in Chicago are really friendly and have definitely made our Chicago experience more enjoyable. Especially our new friend at the local pub.

It seems like we're not getting much sleep here but that must be part of the strategy to wear us down. The WFD tribe is stronger than that, they don't know what we're made of, we've had intensive training at Nelson Ledges!! Alliances have been forged and tempered, the challenges continue, will the WFD tribe Outwit, Outlast, Outplay the rest? The Whole Fam Damily tribe continues to form alliances and we are Grateful for all the opportunities and assistance the Quarry Gods and all our friends and family, new and old, send our way. Tune in next week for news of the WFD tribe's Kinetic Playground experience! Til then, keep spreading good vibes!
